Steel Industry Hopes for Big Stimulus Shot

Huh? What the heck? FYI, clueless steel industry......... You hiked your prices so high in 2008 that fabricators chose to go overseas for supplies. It is cheaper for overseas companies to produce and transport steel to the United States than it is for steel manufacturers in the United States to produce and transport it within the states. How pathetic is that? Wonder if greedy unions had a part in the hiked pricing?

I actually read the article and the lady (worker) with 30 YEARS (of faithful HARD LABOR employment) makes $52249.60 per year. CEO of this company makes 10.27 MILLION per year.

(Each gets productivity pay outs also)

Workers sounds over paid to me ....

And now lets look at Steel CEO's pay checks ... (Psst these numbers are in MILLIONS per year and the 5 years pay plan.)

Name Company Pay ($mil) 5-Yr Pay ($mil)

Richard C Adkerson Freeport Copper 38.66 142.85

L Patrick Hassey Allegheny Technologies 32.49 90.90

Alain J P Belda Alcoa 29.78 49.04

Gregory H Boyce Peabody Energy 22.59 38.93

James L Wainscott AK Steel Holding 11.82 20.60

John V Faraci International Paper 11.79 31.79

John P Surma US Steel 10.27 38.42

John W Conway Crown Holdings 8.13 28.03

R David Hoover Ball 7.81 38.54

David H Hannah Reliance Steel 6.93 17.39

J Brett Harvey Consol Energy 6.74 26.12

Daniel R DiMicco Nucor 6.04 26.36

John A Luke Jr MeadWestvaco 5.45 15.79

Albert P L Stroucken Owens-Illinois 5.28

Keith E Busse Steel Dynamics 4.44 16.50

I am not sure what you do but I ask you this. You think you are over paid? If you are a county employee please lets meet at the next commissioners court meeting and cut your salary. It amazes me that people throw stones at workers trying to hold on to middle class.

I grew up watching unions destroy the economy in the U.K. and am watching the same thing happen in the U.S.

MzChief I think comparing the unions in the U.K. to American unions is like comparing apples to oranges.

When is the last time organized labor has flexed it muscles in America? History has taught us that large (Notice I said large) corporations do not/have not/will not side with what is best for the employee.

Corporate greed is what has destroyed America. The pay rolls I mention above of the CEO's. How much is enough?

To Collectionsite...
Unions and Union employees are MAJOR players in "corporate greed" and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous. Run a business and you will see and perhaps understand the fact that EMPLOYEE EXPENSES is the largest expense of running a business.

Mzchief ....

EMPLOYEE EXPENSES .... mmmm

You make it sound like it "Sucks" to pay your employees.

Also when you say "Unions and Union employees" you make it as two different entities. That is a classic Union Busting tactic. They are ONE AND THE SAME.

A group of men and women united as one for the common good of all. Its called collective bargaining.

Hard to believe but once I saw a member of management at American Airlines tell a woman after she had a miscarriage in her 5th/6th month that she should'nt let minor inconveniences like that keep her from her job. And this is just one of the HUNDREDS of examples and I could go on.

Mzchief I know you do not "punch a clock" not everyone is as educated and fortunate as you. We stand tallest when we stoop to help others.
